We made a birthday cake to take to school today. Lorili helped with the frosting, and Thor helped arrange the marshmallow teeth-notice the gold crown. I had fun trying new techniques with this cake. I've not done much with fondant before, but I used it to cover the lips that I cut out of a layer of cake. The teeth are simply marshmallows, but I painted the gold crown with a paste made from edible gold dust and lemon juice. Did I mention it tasted great too!
Last night I had a great time with some great friends. We enjoyed delicious desserts at Taste on Melrose and then watched a very cute and very funny chick flick: 27 Dresses. The server at the restaurant asked us how we know each other and we all kind of laughed and replied that our husbands all go to dental school together. Kind of an interesting connection, but it sure has saved me! It has been a great 4 years and I am so thankful to have met some amazing friends along the way! My how time flies!
Sunday's lesson in Relief Society and Priesthood was on the talk from Elder Oaks titled "Good, Better, Best." After church Thor and I compared the different directions our discussions went in class. In Relief Society we talked more about trying to leave the dirty dishes (cleaning dishes is a "good" thing) to play with your child (a "better" or "best" thing). In Elder's Quorum the topic turned to things that distract them from school, work, and family. Videogames were brought up, and Thor shared the fact that "his wife" had bought RockBand (ok, I admit it! I did buy it)and that it is a "good" thing because we play it together. After further discussion, the good brethern came to the conclusion that because we play it together, RockBand isn't just a "good" thing, but it is a "better" thing. I couldn't agree more! So to further validate my obsession with RockBand, and to prove that it really is a "better" thing, for our family night activity we had a Thorson Family Band session. RockBand is a "better" thing in our house! Gabe: Drummer in training Lorili: Singer and fly girl
So I just got an email from Julie wondering how the family is doing, she noticed we haven't posted in a while. And there is a good reason for that! Last Friday we made the best purchase ever! ROCKBAND! It has been so fun to play. You can play solo, or with a whole band-guitar-bass-drums-singer. So in the last week, we've had 4 ROCKBAND sessions (friends come over and we "rock and roll all night, and party every day!") It's become a bit of an obsession, but so fun to play. I have to brag now and tell you I've already completed a solo World Tour (on medium) and earned myself a Gold Guitar (graphics)! SWEEEEET! Enjoy the video!
That's Thor and Ray on the guitars, Kindra on the drums, Garrett on the Mic.
We have had a wonderful Christmas, complete with lots of snow, and are enduring a super cold New Years! We hope the rest of you are staying warm and enjoy one of our home videos.
